Chandrayaan 2: Re-established Link with the lander Vikram

Chandrayaan 2: Lander Vikram Found in a “Single Piece” and in a “Tilted Position”

Re-established Link with the lander Vikram

Not losing hope, the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) continued to make all-out efforts to establish link with Chandrayaan 2's Vikram lander, now lying on the lunar surface after a hard-landing.
Vikram, with rover 'Pragyan' housed inside it, hit the lunar surface after communication with the ground-stations was lost  contect with the Chandrayaan 2 during its final descent, just 2.1 km above the lunar surface, in the early hours of Saturday.

Re-established Link with the lander Vikram

"It had a hard-landing very close to the planned (touch-down) site as per the images sent by the on-board camera of the orbiter. The lander is there as a single piece, not broken into pieces. It's in a tilted position," an Isro official associated with the mission claimed on Monday.
"We are making all-out efforts to see whether communication can be re-established with the lander," the official said."An ISRO team is the on the job at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) here."

Re-established Link with the lander Vikram

Chandrayaan 2 comprises an orbiter, lander (Vikram) and rover (Pragyan). The mission life of the lander and rover is one Lunar day, which is equal to 14 earth days.
Isro Chairman K Sivan had said on Saturday that the space agency would try to restore link with the lander for 14 days, and reiterated the resolve on Sunday after the orbiter's camera spotted it on the Lunar surface. An ISRO official said: "Unless and until everything is intact (lander), it's very difficult (to re-establish contact). Chances are less. Only if it had soft-landing, and if all systems functioned, then only communication can be restored. Things are bleak as of now."

Isro lost contact with satellite GSAT 6A

The Indian Space Research Organisation lost contact with The Chandrayaan 2 space mission’s ‘Vikram’ lander which attempted a soft-landing on the moon early morning on September 7. If successful, India would have carried out the fourth successful soft-landing on the moon by any country.
Contact was lost with ISRO when the lander was 2 kilometers from the lunar surface.Despite the setback. ISRO received praise for their work from across the country,The affair was a big event, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the event with more than 70 school children. The event was held at the ISRO, Benagaluru.

What is the aim of the mission?

Chandrayaan 2 is a lunar mission that aims to explore the south polar mission of the moon. This feat is significant, since no country has gone to this region of the moon before.

It is a mission that spanned 48 days till landing. The earth bound spanned the first 23 days. The next 7 days (until the 30th day) saw it go into a lunar bound phase. The lunar bound phase lasted until the 45th day. Landing sequences are expected to end on September 7, the 48th day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will watch the historic Chandrayaan 2 lunar landing live from the ISRO control room in Bengaluru accompanied by around 70 school students from across the country. The students are winners of an online quiz competition conducted by ISRO in August, with the top two scorers from each state and union territories invited to watch India join an elite club of countries to have successfully completed a soft landing on the surface of the Moon.
ISRO's online space quiz, conducted in coordination with MyGov.in between August 10 and August 25, was an attempt to increase awareness about the country's space programme. The quiz lasted 10 minutes and contained a total of 20 questions. The winners were selected on the basis of "maximum correct answers in the shortest time".

"Two top scoring students from class 8-10  from each state and union territory will be invited to Indian Space Research Organisation, Bengaluru Centre to watch the landing of Chandrayaan 2 on the Moon, live  with the Honourable PM Narendra Modi," .
Chandrayaan 2 will complete its soft landing on the Moon's surface, making India only the fourth country to achieve the feat and the first to land near the lunar South Pole on its first attempt.
The Rs.1,000-crore Chandrayaan 2 mission consists of three parts - a lunar orbiter, a lander called Vikram and a rover called Pragyaan.

In the next phase of the mission, Pragyaan, which is housed inside Vikram, will roll out between 5.30 and 6.30 am and deliver two scientific payloads to the Moon's surface. Vikram itself contains three additional payloads to conduct surface and subsurface experiments, and the orbiter carries eight others to map the surface and study the Moon's outer atmosphere.

WHAT IS CHANDRAYAAN-2

WHAT IS CHANDRAYAAN-2

CHANDRAYAAN-2

India will launch a mission on July 15, aim to become the fourth country to land on the moon after the  Soviet Union, US and China to cement its place among the world’s space-faring nations.

The Chandrayaan-2 mission aims to deliver a transient to an elevated plane close to the  lunar South Pole on 6 or 7 September and explore the surface for signs of water and abundant energy. It’s one step in an visualized  progression that includes putting a space station in orbit and — eventually — landing a crew on the moon. The US, China and private corporations are among those  explore everything from resource mining to extra earthbound settlement on the moon and  Mars.

ISRO’s  priority is the $1.4 billion  mission,  which  put three Indian “gaganauts”  one of which will be a woman — into orbit.

Isro conducts Chandrayaan-2 Moon lander's deorbit manoeuvre successfully

Deorbiting manoeuvres involve the firing of the spacecraft's engines to slow down its pace and bring it closer to the Moon's surface. After successfully separating India's first Moon lander, Vikram, on Monday, the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) conducted its first deorbit manoeuvre successfully on Tuesday. The manoeuvre began at 0850 hours and had a duration of 4 seconds.

Isro officials said that after Tuesday's deorbit manoeuvre, the lander had achieved a 109 x 120 km orbit around the Moon. One more deorbit manoeuvre will be conducted on Wednesday and the orbit that the lander will achieve after this will be 39 X 110 km. The effort is to soft-land the lander in the South polar region of the Moon between two craters -- Manzinus C and Simpelius N -- on September 7, 2019.

Deorbiting manoeuvres involve the firing of the spacecraft's engines to slow down its pace and bring it closer to the Moon's surface.
Earlier, Isro Chairman K Sivan said that using deorbiting manoeuvres, the space agency would rotate the lander to the opposite side and burn all the five engines for a short while to reduce the distance between the lander and the Moon's surface, before rotating it back to the previous position. In the second deorbiting manoeuvre, the agency will once again rotate the lander to the opposite side and conduct a small burn of the engines to further bring down the orbit.

The lander will then make a powered descent to the Moon's surface in the unexplored south pole on September 7.Sivan said that the powered descent will be carried out in a 15-minute window between 0130 hours and 0230 hours IST on September 7, through which Vikram will touch down on the surface of the Moon.

"The manoeuvre was considered critical because it marks an important phase of the lunar landing process of Chandrayaan-2 and even a minute hurdle during this manoeuvre could have an impact on the whole mission," said Sivan. After Vikram's touchdown, the rover, Pragyan, will roll down from the former to carry out the research for which it was designed.  after the separation of Vikram, the orbiter will continue  fly around the Moon.

On July 22,  Chandrayaan-2 was launched into space by India's heavy-lift rocket, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III , in a textbook style mission from Isro's spaceport at Sriharikota .the Rs 978-crore Chandrayaan-2's total journey is estimated to be around 384,000 km.
The lander and rover will carry out experiments to find water on the lunar surface and map for chemicals and topography. Extensive mapping of the lunar surface to study variations in surface composition is essential to trace back the origin and evolution of the Moon.

The findings of these experiments will be helpful not only for India's future missions, but also for other missions, including NASA's, said Sivan, who added that past missions, including China's, were carried out close to the Equator. The first data from the rover, Pragyan, will come through about 5.8 hours after landing. While the battery will be exhausted after 14 days, if other systems are intact, once the next lunar day begins, the rover and lander could recharge their power systems and resume their work.

Sarvajanik Ganapati, Lalbaugcha Raja

Sarvajanik Ganapati, Lalbaugcha Raja

One of the most famous Sarvajanik Ganapati, Lalbaugcha Raja is kept for public display for 11 days following which the deity is immersed in the Arabian Sea at Girgaum Chowpatty on the auspicious day of Anant Chaturdashi. This year, Lalbaugcha Raja enters 85 years of celebrations.

Here are a few interesting facts about the famed Lalbaugcha Raja:

Here are a few interesting facts about the famed Lalbaugcha Raja:

  • It is believed that Lalbaugcha Raja is a Navsacha Ganpati (which means one who fulfills all wishes) and over a million people visit the marquee during the 10-days of the festival.
  • The mandal  known as 'Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Lalbaug' was founded in 1934 at Lalbaug Market.
  • According to history, the mandal was funded because of a vow for construction of the present Lalbaug market at its existing place.
  •  Following the shutdown of the Peru Chawl marketplace in 1932, the fishermen and vendors, who sold their goods, vowed to Ganesha for a permanent place for their market.
  • The fisherman and traders established the Ganesh idol on September 12, 1934.
  • Notably, the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh idol has been organised by the Kambli family for over 80 years.
  •  Notably, there are two queues for taking blessings of the Lalbaugcha Raja -- the Navsachi line and the Mukh Darshanachi line. The first one is for people who want to get their wishes fulfilled, where they get to go on the stage, tough the feet of the deity and get his blessings. The second allows devotees to get a glimpse of the idol from a little distance.
  •  Interestingly, Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja hosts the longest immersion procession in the country. The immersion process commences at 10 am in the morning and ends the next morning. The second longest immersion procession is that of Andhericha Raja.
